Take your pick of names but either way it's a sad story. John C. Odom was the minor leaguer and former San Francisco Giants prospect who went from pitcher to punch line when he was traded for 10 bats. I don't care what you say that's gotta hurt. I guess it did because three weeks after the trade he never showed up again and six months down the road he was dead. The medical examiner said Odom's death in Georgia on Nov. 5 at age 26 was an accidental overdose from heroin, methamphetamine, the stimulant benzylpiperazine and alcohol.
