How To Fix a Golf Slice

I am a golf addict and I thought I would share a couple of tips that I have found that have actually fixed my golf slice. Forget buying 400 videos and magazines. I have tried everything like new clubs, longer and shorter tees and 100 goofy stances. None of these worked. It wasn't until two weeks ago I watched a video on "fixing the grip" that solved all of my problems.

You have to realize what causes a slice. A slice is caused by the club head being wide open when it  impacts the ball. That's it. Fix that and you can fix your slice.

One, I was palming the club in my hands. That made it so loose that when I came around to hit the ball the club head would be flying open when it hit the ball. Grab the club with your fingers so you can get a tight grip on it. Grab it right in that ridge where your fingers meet your hand and not the crease in the middle of your hand. That causes you to palm it.

Two, use the "Strong Grip". Many people think that your left thumb should be straight down the shaft of the club. False. When you are holding the club and looking down as you address the ball you should be able to see three knuckles on your left hand. If you don't turn your left hand over towards the right more. Make that "V" that forms with your left index finger and thumb point towards your right shoulder. The picture on the Left is what you want. Try a few swings, it feels wierd at first but this will cause you to swing through with the club more square at time of impact.

You can also try tilting the club head a little more to the left when you first grab it. That will help you send it off to the left as well but those first two tips have totally gotten rid of a slice I had for all of last year and I have played 4 games this year with no slice.

Hey I just want to say thanks for sharing… I used to have a nice draw that turned into a nasty hook so i took a bunch of lessons to fix it. Eventually I did but I was starting to hit pulls and slices. I tried everything to get on a more inside out swing path but nothing worked because my club was always closed forcing the take away outside. I could never open the club face properly without it feeling weird and throwing off my whole swing until I found this and tried it and after like 2 swings my club was rotating properly and I got my nice draw back… Thanks Alot!!

I was the same as you. The above method works for but the guys I golf with try to get me to put the ball back farther in my stance. I just can’t hit so weeks after trying it and slicing and duffing more I went to putting ahead in my stance. It allows me to turn on the ball that much better and keep it from slicing.

    It’s a crazy game.
